  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 140 g unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 100 g neutral oil
  • 283 g whole milk, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 227 g unsalted butter, room temperature (for frosting)
  • 12 oz cream cheese, cold (for frosting)
  • 340 g powdered sugar, sifted (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and spices until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Add oil, milk, eggs, and vanilla; beat until smooth.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture; mix until just combined.
  5. Divide batter between prepared pans. Bake for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  7. For frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter together; gradually add powdered sugar until smooth.
  8. Once cooled, frost layers as desired.
