Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9×9-inch baking pan by greasing and flouring it.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and egg until fluffy. Add brewed coffee, buttermilk, and vanilla; mix well.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture until smooth. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  6. For the caramel sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream. Stir until simmering; cook for about 3–4 minutes until thickened. Stir in vanilla extract and salt.
