Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a floured surface and cut it into squares or rectangles. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for about 15 minutes until golden brown. Let cool.
  3. In a saucepan, heat the whole milk until warm but not boiling. In a bowl, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks; gradually add warm milk while whisking. Return to the saucepan and cook over medium heat until thickened; stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat heavy cream until soft peaks form.
  5. Slice each cooled pastry in half horizontally, fill with custard, top with whipped cream, and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
